Protect Leather From Rain and Moisture
A little rain is part of life on the road. Prolonged exposure to water, however, can affect the surface of natural leather.
If your leather bag becomes wet, gently remove excess moisture with a clean, soft cloth and allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.
Avoid placing leather directly beside a radiator or using a hairdryer. Intense heat can dry the material too quickly, affecting its natural suppleness.
Most importantly, give it time.
Let Leather Breathe
After a day of travelling or commuting, avoid immediately storing a damp leather piece inside a closed wardrobe or case.
Allow it to breathe in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight.
If a bag is not going to be used for some time, empty it before storing and retain its natural shape with soft, acid-free tissue paper. A breathable dust bag offers protection while still allowing air to circulate.
This becomes particularly important during autumn, when increased humidity can make enclosed storage less forgiving.
Care, Rather Than Correct
Full-grain leather is not intended to remain completely unchanged.
Over time, subtle variations in colour, texture and softness become part of its character - a record of where it has been and how it has been used.
For everyday maintenance, gently remove surface dust with a clean, dry cloth. Leather conditioners should be used sparingly and only when appropriate for the particular leather and finish.
When in doubt, less is often more.
Consider What You Carry
Autumn often means returning to a fuller working day, and consequently carrying a little more.
Avoid unnecessarily overfilling leather bags, as repeated strain can alter their structure over time. Pens, cosmetics and liquids are best kept inside separate pouches to protect the interior from accidental marks or spills.
